Bad Money Scripts
This week I helped someone close to my heart prepare her first budget before moving out on her own. Her finances showed a story of someone that never looks at the numbers.
She had no idea what it costed to live a month as herself and it costed her entire pay check as a result of that. She held on to debt that she didn't need to and that's a result of not looking at where her money was going.
When I asked her why hold on to the debt, she said "I'm not good with money like you, you're able to take care of all of this easily, but I'm not the type of person that can do this".
This broke my heart to hear, because we grew up in the same house, with the same money lessons, the only difference is that I spent a lot of time making BIG mistakes, so I was forced to learn how to do things correctly, or drown in my bad decisions.
A lot of us have bad money scripts in our minds. We default to DISEMPOWERING PHRASES. Those very phrases stopped her from looking at what was going on in her finances, and clearing off her debt so she could get an immediate pay raise.

How To Make Your Environment Your Biggest Motivation
Making your environment your biggest motivation is about picking your problems.
"If you make it difficult to do stupid stuff, then it'll be difficult to do stupid stuff."
1. If you want to read more, you'll have the problem of making entertaining things that aren't books inaccessible or more difficult to do.
(Hide the remote for the TV. Move the bookshelf to your bedside. Stick a book on every space saver in your home.)
2. The problem of reading more also means you're more disconnected from people that aren't reading as entertainment.
(Which is good for reading, and cultivating a group of friends that are readers, but bad for dinner conversation if you're a newly converted reader).
3. Your environment reinforces your behaviour and choices as a reader, because its too difficult to do anything other than read on your exhausted days.

Productive Actions To Immediately Optimize Your Time
Write down your ideas as you have them, then think about them at a separate time. This gives you both a new perspective and space to be creative.
Save links or short notes about things you have to do in the future. If you have to file taxes, save it in your calendar and create a list of all the things you'll need to prepare so you won't ever have to search for it again. You'll be notified and know exactly what to do.,
On difficult days, just allow them to be difficult. Don't make it worse by attacking yourself. Take a break, spend that time with compassion toward yourself, then return knowing its going to be a difficult day, but you're going to get the most important thing done.
One Current Thought :
Yesterday I took a risk with a video I made for youtube
(You can see it here).
I put more of my sense of humor, and expected negative reactions, but it was overwhelmingly positive. I also delivered it before I was ready, because I had to make the deadline of my post date.
These 2 things broke rules I made for myself not too long ago.
Don't Rush & Don't put out something with big doubts.
I broke these rules because now my circumstances have changed, and it worked out positively for me. I feel free to experiment more again.
What personal rules are you holding on to that shouldn't matter anymore that you gave yourself, or someone else gave to you?
As always, all the best!
